Star Čestmír Suška
Star
Thanks to the author’s creativity, the old, liquid gas tank has gained an entirely new, aesthetic dimension. A cut-through structure based on the shape of a star has conjured up a kind of a steel lace on the surface of a discarded steel tank, adding to the entire object a semblance of fragility. The interior space is as important as the exterior, allowing vistas through the mass to create new perspectives of perception not only of the statue itself but also of the surrounding area.
Čestmír Suška
Studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, since 1995 he attended many scholarsip stays abroad, mainly in the US, where he has also been active as a teacher. Founded the Kolotoč Fine Arts Theatre, between 1987 – 1991 he was a member of the Tvrdohlaví collective. In 2000, Čestmír established the Studio Bubec in a former warehouse in Prague 5 – Řeporyje. Here he organizes residential stays and holds regular Art Safari events (exhibitions, workshops etc.). He is widely known for his giant steel sculptures made from discarded water tanks. With flames and welding machine, he transforms these enormous objects into surprisingly fragile artifacts.
